Our family decided to book a last minute stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. We go to Disney World a few times per year, but typically don’t stay on property. We are Hilton Honors members and have a Hilton credit card, so we’ve stayed at every Hilton in Orlando. But this weekend happened to be cheaper than the Hilton we love near Disney Springs, so we decided to try it out!
Walt Disney World has over 25 different resorts on property and are categorized as Value, Moderate, or Deluxe. Port Orleans – French Quarter is considered a Moderate Resort, and also has a sister resort called Port Orleans – Riverside. You can walk easily between the two resorts or even take a boat.

OUr Room
We booked this trip last minute and it was just a two night stay, so we had a standard room. The room had two queen beds, a small bathroom with a shower/tub combo, and a small dining table with two chairs.
Honestly, I was kinda underwhelmed by the decor in the room, it felt a bit dated. It was very clean and had plenty of space for the 48 hours we were there, but would have been a bit cramped for our family if we had been there a whole week. We stayed at Coronado Springs last fall, which is also a Moderate Resort, in a standard room and it was much larger!

Food at Port Orleans – French Quarter
There are limited food options at this resort. However, this is the only place to get Mickey Beignets on WDW property so that kind of makes up for it!! They were everything we dreamed of 🙂 if you’ve never had a beignet, think of a mix between a donut and a funnel cake. Delicious!! These can be found in the Scat Cat’s Club Cafe.
There are no sit down restaurants at French Quarter. You can eat at the counter service restaurant called Sassagoula or the pool bar called Mardi Grogs. Sassagoula had a variety of food which was nice. For breakfast, they’ve got all of your classics… Mickey waffles, pancakes, omelets, oatmeal, and various pastries. For lunch and dinner, they have burgers, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and salads. Here is the menu to the restaurant.
And if none of these options sound good, you are only a 10 minute boat ride away to Disney Springs. Or you a 10 minute walk over to Port Orleans – Riverside. The walk is beautiful too along the river and under a cute bridge. Plus, you’ll probably run into a horse drawn carriage!! There are multiple dining options here, including a sit-down restaurant called Boatwright’s Dining Hall; it is only open for dinner, but here is the menu.
Recreations
The pool at Port Orleans – French Quarter was probably one of the best things about this report. It is a large pool with plenty of chairs and umbrellas for all. There is a small waterslide down the mouth of a sea serpent. There is also a water play area with mini slides for your little ones.
This property also has a game room for the older kids and a small playground for the younger ones. My son kept asking for the “ground” over and over again 🙂
I couldn’t get my kids to do it, but on the lawn on Saturday night they were playing a movie on a large outdoor screen. They do “Movie Under the Stars” 4 nights per week and all Disney movies of course! They were playing Tangled while we were there, which is one of my favorites, but my kids least favorite haha so even bribing them with candy wasn’t working! I believe they do this at all WDW Resorts.
Overall Thoughts
For a short weekend stay, depending on the price and availability, I would stay here again. But for a longer trip, our family needs, and the things we enjoy, there are other Disney World moderate resorts we enjoy more! I would have preferred more food options and a bigger room which are reasons I loved Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
