6 Basic Tips for Walt Disney World

We have been to Walt Disney World too many times to count. We’ve experienced going with and without kids, during holidays, and festivals. Before Covid we had annual passes so we’ve been every month out of the year (September or February are my favorite months to go).
There are so many tips and tricks to Walt Disney World that I could share. But I’m going to start here with 6 basic tips for any Disney traveler.

1. Water Bottle – Bring your own water bottle to the parks with you. You can refill your water bottle at any counter service restaurant. You can also ask for a cup of ice water at any of these restaurants and dump it in yourself. Bottled water costs over $3 and you will want to keep hydrated during those hot humid Florida days!

2. Rope Drop – Get to the parks early, preferably before rope drop. Rope drop is basically when everyone lines up at the gates right before the park opens. Each park has their own little opening show with characters welcoming you into the park and usually consists of a countdown. 10.. 9.. 8.. you get the idea!! Plus the parks are way less busy first thing in the morning and you can usually bust out several anttractions and a snack all before 11am.

3. Attire – Wear comfortable clothes including your shoes. You will be walking a lot, at least a half marathon a day! Personally I am most comfortable in athletic wear and comfortable walking sneakers.

Side note, keep a few bandaids in your bag. Someone always gets a blister after being sweaty or wet from a ride. Maybe I should write a what to pack in your park bag blog?!

4. Day and Night – I know, I said to get there early but I also think you should stay late! Experience each park during the day AND at night if possible. I love spending the day at the parks, but each one of them have a different vibe after dark. I swear the rides go faster and the way the castle lights up at night is extra magical!

My perfect magical park day would consist of rope drop in the morning, late lunch at the resort to take a break, and head back to the parks at dinner time and stay until closing. That way you can experience the best of both worlds!

5. My Disney Experience Mobile App – Download the My Disney Experience Mobile App for Walt Disney World on your phone before your trip. This tool will help you with all parts of your trip. You can check wait times, order food, use it as your room key if you’re staying on property, and so much more. I definitely recommend playing with the app and checking it all out ahead of your trip so you’re familiar with the features before you arrive.

And my final tip,

6. Be Patient – This is a hard one for me, but no matter what time of year, there will always be lines. Either at parking, attractions, restaurants… somewhere you will always have to wait. Remember everyone is there to have fun. Just breathe and try to keep calm, you’re at Walt Disney World!!

Again these are just some basic tips, and honestly the list could have been like 100. So, if you have any specific Disney questions, leave them below in the comments! Have a magical day 🙂
