Our Living Room Refresh on Gum Street

We have lived in our house for 7 years, and it was time for a little living room refresh. We built our house just a few months after moving to Florida and before the kids were born.

Here is what our living room looked like during the build and the week we moved in.

Living Room Sofa

Between the kids and our dog, the old sofa had died and we really needed a new one. We looked several times at a new sofas at many different stores, but I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted. Finally, Cory and I went to City Furniture and I said I wasn’t leaving until we purchased a new one!

Thankfully, we had the best sales person helping us that wasn’t pushy, super patient, and understood what we were looking for. City Furniture even has a bar inside to get beer, wine, and coffee! So it made the shopping experience even more enjoyable 🙂

We sat on almost every sofa in the store and we ended up buying the first one we sat on. We almost bought this leather sectional, but I wasn’t sure if the leather would go with our kitchen. It’s all one large area and it all seemed too dark. But if you’re looking for a leather sofa, it’s comfy and beautiful in person!!

I’m so happy we went with this sofa because it has seriously brightened the room and is super comfortable. I was a little nervous about the color with kids, but it’s going well so far! I’ll have to give an update in 6 months haha

Living room ottoman and rug

We also bought this ottoman to go with the sofa. I just loved the pattern, something fun and different. I’ve been so over everything being beige, beige, and more beige. So this is our color era and I’m here for it!!

To add even more color and pattern, I found this rug on Amazon. I am obsessed with all the color and even bought these pink pillows to bring more color to the sofa. Here are the pillow covers and here are the inserts. All of the other pillows are old from Target and World Market.

living room tv cabinet, Lamp, and other items

Before we had a large tv cabinet with open shelving taking over this wall. But I really wanted something with closed door cabinets to hold board games and toys. I hated staring at the mess while trying to relax.

So we bought 2 of these cabinets from Wayfair to cover the wall and I love the way it turned out. The latern light fixture is also from Wayfair.

I bought this piece of artwork at Homegoods. I’d like to find two companion pieces for either side of the tv, but I haven’t found anything I like yet.

I did however find this lamp at Target and I am obsessed! It matches perfect with the rug and gives a good pop of color at that end of the cabinet.

The accent chair is super old from Pier One. Fun fact – it’s actually the first piece of furniture I ever bought for myself right after college. I was working at Pier One at the time and got a great employee discount on it!

If you can see behind the sofa, we used parts of the old cabinet to keep some shelving for pictures, books, and family heirlooms.

future plans

I also would like to paint and add wallpaper to the living room. I have big plans with this wallpaper for an accent wall behind the tv. But for now, I am loving our living room refresh and the new color scheme!
